First Meeting With Fellins.com

My classmate and I met with one of the owners from Fellin’s Jewelers to do some SEO work for them. Even though our labor is free of charge, it will be mutually beneficial. Fellin’s Jewelers becomes a guinea pig for our educational experience, while Fellin’s has the opportunity to increase their sales for free. Did I forget to mention that this will also tack on 3 additional credits at the end of the semester?

So it turns out that Fellin’s had their webhost (Logical Solutions) develop an e-commerce site for them at www.fellins.com and www.fellinsonline.com. The owners poured more money into this than I had expected. She showed us a summary of all of her promotions beginning last Februrary, when they launched the website.

  • Billboard Ad
  • Radio Spot
  • Graphic ad on local newspaper website
  • Google AdWords Pay-Per-Click Campaign
  • Local Press Release
  • Graphic ad on local ISP website

I can’t tell you how many sales Fellin’s website has generated so far, due to privacy concerns, but I can definitely say that they haven’t seen any returns on investment yet.

After our evaluation, we came up with some problems with Fellin’s as an online retailer. The Fellins.com site is aesthetically appealing, but not very search engine friendly. Also, it gives off the impression of a catalog rather than an e-commerce site. And most importantly, Fellin’s has remained as an anti-social, isolated island without any links to and from other websites.

To further work on this project, we have to find out if Fellin’s webhost will give us FTP access. Also, since the e-commerce script was developed in-house at Logical Solutions, we need to find out if Fellin’s has the the rights to modify the source code.

On a side note, did you know that the following two online retailers are located in Hazleton, PA?

Got Thoughts?

By all means share them, and start the conversation.
