“Windows Vista Ready” Bait and Switch

Some ridiculous woman by the name of Dianne Kelley is suing Microsoft because her “Windows Vista Ready” computer cannot be upgraded with the whole plethora of features. Rather, her pre-Vista computer can only run Vista Home Basic, which doesn’t include the pretty Aero interface or the Media Center capabilities.

Dianne claims “that they were purchasing Vista capable machines when, in fact, they could obtain only a stripped down operating system.” What she doesn’t get is that “the space age Aero interface” is not the essence of Windows Vista. Ignorant consumers only care about the pampered looks of an OS and don’t understand that the main points of Windows Vista are enhanced security, speed and functionality.

Not every Vista is made the same, and she should have educated herself about Vista’s many different faces before buying her machine. Just a little bit of research would tell you that the different editions are: Basic, Premium, Ultimate and Business. It’s all laid out here on Microsoft’s website.

I bought my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop on Black Friday 2006, and right here above the screen it says “Windows Vista Premium Ready.” But even though it says that, I know that it won’t be able to properly run Aero or the other side shit because it only has the minimum specs.

I’m not even a hardcore fan of Windows, but, as a nation, we should stop giving foreigners good reasons to make fun of America by filing lawsuits like this.

Got Thoughts?

By all means share them, and start the conversation.
