Country Club of the Poconos

I live in a community called Country Club of the Poconos in the Marshalls Creek area. If you don’t know where the Poconos are, this mountainous region is on the border of New Jersey in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I went to high school in the rapidly developing town of Stroudsburg, which is directly east of Marshalls Creek. This whole area is being flooded by incoming families from New York and New Jersey, leading to a boom in the housing market. One out of eight people I know is a real estate agent, or at least holds a real estate license.

In the midst of all of this, the Country Club of the Poconos a small gated community on about 1,000 acres of land, but mostly comprised of mountains and useless mounds of stone rubble. The houses in this community are pretty nice, featuring the national “luxury home builder” Toll Brothers. I especially dislike the fact that I have drive up numerous mountains and stop signs to get to our home, causing me to waste more gas when the gas prices are already disgusting.

The residents work in New York City and then eat and sleep in the Country Club. In my case, I go to school in Hazleton (65 miles away) and eat and sleep in the Country Club. Cheaper house prices (much cheaper), equating to lower living costs, and better schools for the kids (questionable). Who wouldn’t want to move to the Poconos for these incentives, and better yet the Country Club of the Poconos?
