Opportunistic Affiliate Marketing With The iPhone Ringtone

Brent published an entry on Relentlus about how he improvised with the breaking news of the iPhone and set up an affiliate marketing site optimized towards the iPhone ringtone. He gave enough hints as to the whereabouts of his iPhone ringtone blogspot blog that I was able to locate it in the Yahoo SERP. After glancing at the structure and content of this type of website, it amazes me how you can monetize such a simple setup just by being in the right place at the right time. Brent says that he made some nice bucks off of all the traffic flooding in for the iPhone ringtone searches; he had the upper hand in regards to SEO because he seized the opportunity and broke into the keyword first.

I discovered some other examples of ringtone affiliate marketing blogs through some quick searches. Take note of their structural layout and the style of content, as it seems to be universal. It must work if everyone else is doing it — and no, this is not a logical fallacy.

As for me, I don’t keep up with popular culture because I don’t watch television (I don’t even own a tv) and I stay away from any kind of news that isn’t tech or internet marketing related, including politics. But Brent — along with Kris Jones and his past successes — motivates me to take a dip into this type of opportunistic affiliate marketing. So, if you’re like me and live in a box closed off from the real world, here’s how to keep up with pop culture by taking a shortcut.

Start reading blogs and websites that are known to stay up to date with what’s happening on television. Reality TV is exceptionally popular nowadays and elements in those shows seem to comprise most tv-related searches. So subscribe to the feeds on the following blogs:

You can find dozens of more websites like this by punching in these url’s with the related: command on Google.

I remember once I bought a National Enquirer magazine just to see what the hype is all about. As I focused and read through page by page, I felt myself becoming more light-headed in a retarded type of way. I am experiencing the same feeling while skimming over the blogs above. Superficial — that blog title above captures the essence of this field of news. But, there’s a lot of potential cash to be earned through marketing these topics on search engines, so that’s like viagra for my limp motivation.

Another method to check on what’s hot is by constantly monitoring Google Trends, which publishes real-time information about popular searches on Google.

The next step is, when something catchy or controversial breaks out, log onto Blogspot and start an affiliate marketing blog with an appropriate url. You could also hit up a registrar and grab a domain name relevant to the topic in question, but the website may be popular only for a couple of months, so it may not be worth your trouble. (Proof: if you go through the Google SERP for the most recent American Idol stars’ ringtone blogs, many of these sites are now dismantled and the url’s are for sale.)

After you have the blog set up, write a couple of posts with unique content and try to get them indexed as quickly as possible. I got one of my sites indexed within 24 hours by posting a signature link in a high-traffic forum and submitting the website to Blue Hat SEO’s QUIT tool. I won’t go into details about keyword density and other SEO factors, but from my experience, if the keyword is unadulterated, you can quickly rank on the first page of Google SERP even if the website is brand new. Then install a free SEO analytics tracker like 103bees and monitor the search queries that are coming into your site and adjust accordingly from there.
