Being offered for the first time, the SRA 311 Risk Management course makes me excited about my major again. This is remarkably refreshing since past courses like SRA 111/211/221/231 failed to live up to my expectations. Being “guinea pig” courses can be no excuse because this course blows all of them out of the water.
Taught by Professor William McGill, new faculty member and former Analyst for the DIA, the course is a thorough overview of Risk Assessment and Mitigation. Every classmate I’ve talked to so far approves of the course and says something of the like that McGill “really knows his shit.” Professor McGill brings his industry experience from working in the government and passionately shares his expertise and insight with our class.
You would be surprised by what a big difference his industry experience makes from an approach taken by professors who have been in academia all throughout their careers. Most importantly, McGill has a stockpile of relevant and intriguing examples to discuss for each topic brought up in class.
You can check out Professor McGill’s blog to read more about his thoughts on risk, uncertainty and everything else. For instance, check out his post on today’s lecture regarding “The Words of Risk Analysis.” He says that he will attempt to make a blog post about each lecture from this point on. I hope he finds the time and energy to continue to do so.
Got Thoughts?
By all means share them, and start the conversation.
