We recently moved into a new office at the Scranton Enterprise Center. I was finally able to visit the office this weekend because things have been hectic back in State College. It’s about a 3 hour drive from where I live to the office in Scranton so it takes a bit of planning to make it out here.
I didn’t have a digital camera on hand so I took the following photo by holding up my laptop in the air so it’s not that great:

As you can see, we are still in early startup mode trying to squeeze the most out of every dollar. Our furniture consists of a few cheap fold-out tables from Wal-Mart and decent office chairs. The office itself could probably squeeze in 20 employees but we currently only have three people working here. SRA International’s Scranton branch office used to be located in this office space but they quickly outgrew it and moved upstairs.
Scranton really managed to surprise me with all its innovative business activity. I was totally ignorant of the fact, as many regional people probably do. I had always assumed it was just another deteriorating coal town, and my past couple of visits were not very warming. I came up once for a PNC Bank interview and then second for the Great Valley Technology Alliance Business Plan Competition. Apparently, though, there is a lot of excitement with the establishment of a new medical school; companies like Gentex and Life Science Analytics; new initiatives opening up with Wall Street West.
Also, in this building we have a remarkably serendipitous connection. Just down the hall is Geisinger Ventures which coincidentally invests in medical startups. We’ll definitely be talking to Geisinger in the near future about our upcoming product.
I’m attempting to make it up to Scranton least twice a month for the weekends. We should have a beta product ready in a couple of months.
Got Thoughts?
By all means share them, and start the conversation.
